Challenge:
The Ethernet network is one of the most significant infrastructure components used to construct a Smart Grid and the reliability of the network is a key factor that affects it’s operating performance. Switches must withstand harsh environments with strong EMI and support real time protocols for seamless data transmission.

System Requirements:
  • IEC61850-3 & IEEE1613 compliant
  • Zero-packet-loss for GOOSE transmission
  • EMC industrial level 4, resistant to harsh environment
  • IEEE1588 v2 PTP with accuracy less than 200ns

FirstMile's PTS 6228 comply with IEC 61850-3 & IEEE 1613 standards
  • Resist EMI/RFI resulting from inductive load switching, lightening, electrostatic discharge, interference from portable radio handsets, ground potential rise or resulting from high current fault conditions within the substation, and a variety of other EMI phenomena commonly encountered in the substation environment.
  • Transmit Generic Object Oriented Substation Events (GOOSE) which is a control model defined by IEC 61850-3 to transport critical events, the GOOSE messages transfer data with a maximum delay of 4ms in a network environment.
